Vindolanda Youth Panel 2024

We are looking for young people aged between 15 – 18 to get involved in a special youth led project exploring the impact of climate change on ancient archaeology. Extremes in weather, such as increasing temperatures and period of high levels of rain impacts the preservation of archaeology, from which we gain a rich knowledge about the ancient communities and societies who lived before us. The project will result in a 'Takeover Day' at the Roman Army Museum, which will be decided by the group itself. Ideas could include: 

• Climate action craft activity.
• Audio tour.
• Create your own interpretation.
• Blog. 
• ‘Object in focus’ guided tour.

When:

Sessions will commence on 27^th January 2024, 10am – 3pm at Vindolanda’s Robin Birley Archaeology Centre.

There will be a subsequent four sessions on 1^st February, 8^th February, 15^th February and 22^nd February 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Vindolanda’s Headley Centre. The 'Takeover Day' will be held on 24^th February 11am – 3pm at the Roman Army Museum.

Youth Panel 2022-23

Our 2022-2023 Youth Panel have created the blog below about their experiences creating a temporary exhibition for the Roman Army Museum that looked at identity on the frontier. The youth panel went through all the stages of curating a display for a museum including choosing a theme, the objects and designing the display. They went into the Vindolanda stores and got a behind the scenes look at how museum curation works.
