Vindolanda Guided Tours

Guided Tours:

Our guided tours are given by our amazing volunteer guides, they all run from the Westgate (main visitors entrance) in the courtyard. The 45-minute tours will take you through some of the highlights of the site remains with detail on important buildings, sites and historical background and events.

• We welcome adults and children on all of our tours.
• There is no need to book onto any of our tours.

Audio Described Tours:  

Every third Sunday of the month, the next will be on 19th July, we will be offering audio-described tours as the first tour of the day.

These 45-minute tours, developed with Vindolanda Trust volunteer guides and VocalEyes, are designed to enhance the experience for visitors with visual impairments, and everyone is welcome.

Please note the route includes the Roman Fort, where ground conditions may be uneven. Our volunteer guides are trained sighted guides and are happy to assist where needed.
